I arrived with all the zeal and passion of a typical anointed young minister. I’ll walk from my house in Akaboezem, Uruagu, to Roundabout Nnewi early in the morning to study and prepare for our meetings at the Nnewi Divisional Library. Young boys were asking me if I was a jambite because of the way I packed books, but that’s a story for another day.
Of course, I’m always fasting and praying, but as soon as I walk into the hall, the anointing on me lifts. I asked, “What is this?” I increased the daily meeting, and it was then that I developed a running stomach whenever I stood in the pulpit to preach; remember, I’m always fasting, so this running stomach is on an empty stomach.
This went on for a while, until God opened my eyes to the shape of the terrain and gave me the wisdom to overcome it. We planned a two-day, ten-hour, all-night meeting with my friend those days; it was war all night, but we eventually broke through. I can’t tell you how many manifestations of darkness we saw that night, but heavy human feet were pounding on the roof at one point.
The landlord arrived the next morning and informed us that the hall was not available for church use. What did I say??? What has the former pastor been up to for the past three years? Some works have refused to grow because the building in which the members congregate was dedicated to the Territorial Prince and the owner is a priest, despite the fact that he is a millionaire businessman and church elder.
Finally, I discovered that there is something about night vigils that the princes of my territory, and indeed the entire Eastern part of Nigeria, can’t stand.
