Composed by Rev. Cyrillus a Matre Dei

Jesus unto Thee I flee, Through Thy Mother praying Thee, In my need to succor me. Truly, I believe of Thee

God Thou art with strength to shield me; Full of trust, I hope of Thee Thou Thy grace wilt give to me.

All my heart I give to Thee, Therefore, do my sins repent me; From them breaking, I beseech Thee, Jesus, from their bonds to free me.

Firm my purpose is to mend me; Never more will I offend Thee. Wholly unto Thee I give me, Patiently to suffer for Thee, Thee to serve eternally.

And my neighbor like to me I will love for love of Thee. Little Jesus, I beseech Thee, In my need to succor me, That with Joseph and with Mary And the angels, I may Thee Once enjoy eternally.

To Jesus Abandoned

With Mary Immaculate, let us adore, thank, implore and console the Most Beloved and Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. O Divine Jesus, lonely today (tonight) in so many Tabernacles, without visitor or worshiper, I offer You my poor but loving heart. May its every beat be an infinite act of love for You.

You are always watching beneath the Sacramental Veils; in Your Love You never sleep and You are never weary of Your vigil for sinners. O lonely Jesus, may the flame of my heart burn and beam always in company with You. O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine! All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine!

The Last Agony

When the soul is about to depart from the body, then more than ever ought they who are to pray earnestly around the dying person’s bed; and if he be unable to speak, the Holy Name of JESUS should constantly be invoked, and such words as the following again and again repeated in his ear:

INTO Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. EO Lord Jesus Christ, receive my spirit. EHoly Mary, pray for me.

EO Mary, mother of grace, mother of mercy, do thou protect me from the enemy, and receive me at the hour of death. ESt. Joseph, pray for me. – St. Joseph, in company with the blessed Virgin thy Spouse, open to me the bosom of divine mercy.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, to you I commend my heart and my soul.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, assist me in my last agony.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, let me depart and rest wtih you in peace.

When the soul has departed, the following may be said:

Come to his assistance, ye Saints of God, come forth to meet him, ye Angels of the Lord:

Receiving his soul: Offering it in the sight of the Most High.

V. May Christ receive thee, who hath called thee, and may the Angels bear thee into Abraham’s bosom.

R. Receiving, etc.

V. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

R. Offering, etc.

V. Lord, have mercy.

R. Christ, have mercy.

V. Lord, have mercy.

Our Father (inaudibly)

V. And lead us not into temptation.

R. But deliver us from evil.

V. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.

R. And let perpetual light shine upon him.

V. From the gates of hell.

R. Deliver his soul, O Lord.

V. May he rest in peace.

R. Amen.

V. O Lord hear my prayer.

R. And let my cry come unto thee.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit..

Let us pray

To Thee, O Lord, do we commend the soul of Thy servant N., that being dead to the world he may live unto Thee; and whatsoever sins he has commited through the frailty of his mortal nature, do Thou, by the pardon of Thy most merciful love, wash away.

Amen.

Meanwhile, according to the custom of the place, let the Passing-Bell be rung, reminding all who hear it to pray for the Christian soul. Then let the body be decently laid out, with lighted candles near. Let a small cross be placed upon the breast, between the hands or else let the hands themselves be folded one upon another, in the form of a cross. The body is sprinkled with holy water, and thenceforward until the time of burial, let all who are present pray for the repose of the departed soul.
