Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya – Dr. D.K. Olukoya – was born on 15 July 1957 (age 65 years), in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria to a police officer father and a trader mother. He enrolled in St. John’s CAC Primary School in Akure, where he was noted as a highly bright student who excelled throughout his time there. When his family relocated to Lagos, he enrolled in St. Jude’s Primary School in Ebute metta, where he graduated with honors.
DKO then went to the Methodist Boys’ High School (MBHS) on Broad Street in Lagos (established in 1878). In fact, it was here that he was reborn. At MBHS, he also met an Indian instructor who once told his students, “Boys, if you want to escape poverty, READ YOUR BOOK!” DKO steadfastly followed this advise, studying from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. every day. DKO was the best graduating student in his class by the time he graduated from MBHS.
Dr. Olukoya was enrolled to the University of Lagos (Unilag) in 1976 to study Microbiology. He received a first-class degree in Microbiology from Unilag in 1980. He was the first individual at the institution to receive a first-class degree, and his G.P.A is remains the highest ever recorded (as of February 2010) in that programme.

Soon after graduating, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Reading in the United Kingdom to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Molecular Genetics. Despite the program’s inherent difficulties, DKO completed his PhD in three years and returned to Nigeria.
DKO returned to Nigeria and joined the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, where he built a reputation as an extraordinary African geneticist. DKO established himself as a genetics authority, producing over 70 scholarly publications in a short period of time (a remarkable feat by any standard). He also taught genetics and served as an external examiner at several colleges.
Furthermore, he has attended and delivered papers at scientific conferences on nearly every continent. Even now, DKO contributes to the field of genetics and biotechnology through the Daniel & Fola Biotechnology Foundation, a recognized non-governmental organization founded to provide Nigerian residents with current and contemporary laboratory skills in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
Dr. Olukoya’s father was a preacher at the Christ Apostolic Church in addition to being a police officer (CAC). As a result, he was reared in a Christian family and has Christian views. DKO dedicated his whole scholastic career to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. During his PhD studies in the United Kingdom, his love for Jesus and spiritual fire grew exponentially. Dr. Olukoya’s ministry is significantly impacted by the work of the Christ Apostolic Church’s founder, Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola.
Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya wrote in reverence on the dedication pages of the Prayer Rain and Prayer Passport volumes that Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola was a minister of God who recognized the power of prayer. He was a guy powerfully used by God to spark the first Christian revival in Nigeria in the 1930s.
Apostle Babalola and his bold prayer warriors invaded prohibited jungles, subdued devils demanding worship, and paralyzed deeply entrenched anti-gospel operations. They publically shamed demonic agents, emptied hospitals via the healing power of the Lord Jesus Christ, put witch-doctors out of work, and established Nigeria’s first indigenous Holy Ghost-filled church. So far, no one has equaled, much alone excelled, this modest brother in the field of vigorous evangelism in our country.”
Dr. Olukoya is a songwriter and musician. His famed hymn, “Oke Nla Sidi,” which translates to “O ye mountain, be gone,” was believed to have been written after many years of praying to the Lord for the release of his son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya. According to his wife, Pastor Dr. Shade Olukoya, upon receiving the news of his son’s birth, Dr. Olukoya instantly burst into song. According to her, he sung till they arrived at their place, and he was so delighted that he got lost, walked to another apartment, and tried his keys on the lock. They had waited on the Lord for nearly 16 years of marriage at the time, so there was every reason to rejoice.
Dr. Olukoya is married to Pastor (Dr.) Elizabeth Folasade Olukoya, and they have a son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya.
Battle Cry Christian Ministries publishes Dr. Daniel Olukoya’s publications. He has approximately 400 life-changing Christian publications (as of July 2021), audio cassettes and CDs, video discs, and many more.
