Before becoming a full-time gospel musician, he worked as an IT Consultant at Unilever Nigeria PLC as an analyst in the Directly Consumed Services Department.
Gbenga Akinfenwa, despite being Yoruba, is blissfully married to his Igbo wife and sweetheart. They first met at work in 2007, began dating in 2009, and were married in 2011.
His stage moniker Phatstrings was inspired by his experience in bass guitar playing. In an interview with Punch NG, he said that some of his friends used to call him G-bass or G-strings, but he didn’t like the latter since it implied something different, so he selected Phatstrings because Phat implies something fantastic or excellent and strings are from the guitar, so it simply stuck.
Minister Gbenga Akinfenwa’s path into gospel music stems from his desire to accomplish anything that benefits the soul. So he took his relationship with God seriously, deciding that he needed to be ready to justify what I was doing in front of God. “Whatever I do must be life-giving, my music inclusive, and only gospel music I consider life-giving,” he says.
Gbenga Akinfenwa has published several pieces of music that have benefited the lives of many people, including the Jehovah Olugbeja Album.
