In terms of assets, CRDB Bank is the largest commercial bank in Tanzania, followed by NMB Bank Plc. Because of its large asset portfolio, the company has a significant operating footprint in Burundi.
Shares in the top banking group were valued Tsh385 ($0.165) as of press time on July 15, unchanged from their starting price on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange this morning, as both buying and selling forces were evenly handled.
Tanzanian multimillionaire brothers Aunali and Sajjad Rajabali control a combined 2.6 percent of the Dar es Salaam-based lender. Their joint stakes in the group have a market value that ranks them among the top investors on the local stock exchange.
The market value of their stock has declined by Tsh3.01 billion ($1.29 million) from Tsh28.78 billion ($12.34 million) on May 24 to Tsh25.76 billion ($11.04 million) at the time of writing this post, according to statistics collected by Billionaires.Africa.
The recent drop in the market value of their investment may be ascribed to the sharp drop in CRDB shares from Tsh430 ($0.184) to Tsh385 ($0.165), as investors proceeded to reduce positions in the lender in order to protect wealth and channel funds into assets with positive real returns.
Their ownership grew in value by Tsh10.04 billion ($4.31 million) between Jan. 1 and May 23, owing to a 53.6-percent growth in CRDB shares in the first five months of 2022.
